What it does / when to replace

The rear drum bearing lets the drum spin smoothly under load. Worn bearings usually cause a deep rumble or grinding that gets louder on spin, and can damage the shaft or tub if left.

Fitment & care

Isolate the appliance from the mains before work. Fitting a rear drum bearing is a major strip-down: remove the side panel/pulley as required, withdraw the old bearing, clean and grease the shaft and seal, then refit. Some sealed outer tanks cannot take a bearing-only repair and need a full tub group instead.
